About Lake Sunapee
Lake Sunapee is a beautiful clean and clear body of water located in the west-central part of New Hampshire. The lake is 8.1 miles long and approximately 2 miles wide at its widest point. Lake Sunapee boasts three of the five working lighthouses in NH. Rent a boat and go discover Lakeside Light, Loon Island Light and Burkehaven Light.
This area became a popular tourist destination after the railroad was completed in 1871 from Concord to Claremont. Summer visitors arrived by train from Boston and New York and traveled around the lake by steamboats to the various hotels and boarding houses. Today the many hotels and boarding houses have been replaced with wonderful private summer homes and cottages where families still come to enjoy these crystal clear waters and wonderful sunsets.
